“A New State of Matter” –‘Bizarre Black, Hot Water Forms Most Giant Icy Worlds In the Milky Way

Scientists have confirmed the existence of “superionic ice,” a new phase of water—really a new phase of matter—first predicted over 30 years ago. Scientists think that the superhot black water is among the most common forms of water in the universe. The team at the University of Rochester’s  Laboratory for Laser Energetics performed a laser-driven shock compression experiment, recreating the interior conditions of planets in order to create the unusual substance.
