Special permeable concrete pavement can help reduce the 'urban heat island effect' that causes cities to sizzle in the summer, according to a team of engineers

Concrete and asphalt are some of the biggest culprits in the formation of “heat islands” around cities, and causing problematic runoff of rainwater rather than its absorption. Now a team of engineers at Rutgers has designed a highly efficient permeable concrete pavement that will help cool things down.
