When Will It Burst? Now In the Burst Chamber - Stainless Steel Tubing

Written by Jeff Hopkins | 4/23/14 4:00 PM

Stainless steel tubing is strong, but even it will burst when the pressure gets too high

In this week's When Will It Burst? video, we reveal the winner of last week's burst contest, discuss how to select tubing for use with Swagelok tube fittings, then we burst some seamless 316 stainless steel tubing and ask you to guess at what pressure it will burst Watch it here »

Congratulations to ? The first winner in our When Will It Burst video series came the closest to guessing the amount of pressure it took to burst a piece of 3/8 inch copper tubing. Watch this week's video to see the actual burst pressure and who won.

Next burst contest

Our series provides graphic proof that even under pressure high enough to burst tubing, the Swagelok tube fittings held up. This week we swap out the copper tubing for some very tough seamless 316 stainless steel tubing. In When Will It Burst? #2, we talk about four variables to consider when choosing tubing and how to use the Swagelok tubing data sheet to assist you in the selection of tubing for use with Swagelok tube fittings, then we give you the pressure ratings for the seamless stainless steel tubing used in this week's burst contest.  Watch the video, then enter your best guess in the form on the When Will It Burst? #2 video page (here), before Noon PST on Thursday, May 1.
