Engineers at Carbon Engineering’s facility in British Columbia have built a plant that achieves both direct CO2 capture and fuel generation—and unlike previous attempts, the process is both scalable and cost-effective.
Giant fans draw ambient air into contact with an aqueous solution that picks out and traps carbon dioxide. That same carbon dioxide is processed for further use in fuels such as gasoline, diesel, or jet fuel—or for storage. This system, if implemented widely, will drastically cut the carbon footprint of transportation.
