Written by Jeff Hopkins | 12/13/19 5:00 PM

The distribution of and interactions between electrons in transition metals means many of them are already useful for data storage, electrical conduction, and the development of novel materials. Now scientists have discovered that they can rearrange the electrons within the transition metals titanium and zirconium in less than a femtosecond, prompting useful changes in their characteristics.
