Rewriting the Periodic Table at High Pressure

Written by Jeff Hopkins | 12/30/19 5:00 PM

The periodic table just got a new “how-to” guide. At high pressure, atoms combine in unusual ways and produce reactions that are impossible under normal conditions. A new study enables researchers to predict how certain elements will behave under different pressures, by mapping the electronegativity and the electron configuration of the elements as they change under pressure. No experiments or calculations required!
