Supercapacitors, high-capacity energy storage devices, may soon get a boost from a new type of electrolyte that is chemically related to laxatives. An international team of scientists designed the new class of electrolyte, an ionic liquid that can store energy more efficiently, and is more stable, non-flammable, and more environmentally friendly than currently used electrolytes.
