August Webinar: Back Pressure Regulators Made Simple -- How they work and how to use them, presented by Swagelok field engineer Eric Kayla. Registrants receive Kayla's slide deck. Register now »

Our popular webinar series on regulators will get a new installment on Thursday, August, 22nd at 10am as field engineer Eric Kayla returns to discuss back pressure regulators. He'll explain the various parts of a back pressure regulator and how they work, typical variations among different models, and how to get the best use from them.

Sensing inlet pressure

If you saw our previous webinar on pressure reducing regulators, you'll recall that those devices control pressure while sensing outlet pressure. Back pressure regulators, on the other hand, control pressure while sensing inlet pressure. It then keeps that inlet pressure below a set point. When pressure is too high, the regulator opens. When pressure drops below a desired point, the regulator closes.

Kayla will detail the different kinds of parts that can be found within a back pressure regulator, such as the types of sensing elements, types of seats and types of loading elements.

Flow curves, relief valves and more

As with any type of regulator, Kayla will explain the importance of flow curves in determining the right model for a specific job.

He'll also discuss relief valves, and when they are (and aren't) a better choice than a back pressure regulator. The two devices have some similarities, but relief valves are less precise. That is, they have a wide band of resealing pressure as compared to a back pressure regulator.

As usual, expect a 30-minute presentation, plus time for live questions and answers afterward. We'll record the webinar and make it available to those who couldn't participate live, and we'll post some of the questions and answers in our blog, but there's no substitute for the chance to ask Kayla questions directly.

Meet Eric Kayla

For those who haven't yet been introduced to Eric Kayla, he's Swaglok's roaming expert on regulators and has been with the company for 18 years. He spends about half of his time on the road each year visiting customers in the western portions of Canada, the United States and Mexico. He's in great demand, so this is a rare opportunity to hear him live.
