Swagelok Keeps American Manufacturing Alive And Strong
by Jeff Hopkins on 9/19/13 9:00 AM
Swagelok's Ohio operation is training a new generation of machine operators
What was maligned for years as the Rust Belt, Northeastern Ohio is currently seeing a strengthening in its manufacturing, with positive job growth, according to industry analysts. Swagelok Company confirms that indeed this is one place where American manufacturing is still alive and strong, without a spot of rust to be seen.
Swagelok has grown into a $1.8 billion manufacturer since its founding in 1947, making high-quality fluid system solutions for industries like oil and gas, power, semiconductors, chemicals and petrochemicals, and alternative fuels. To supply all those industries, the company employees more than 900 machine operators.
The company has generated a lot of loyalty. The average tenure among those operators is 12 years, and nearly 200 of them have been with Swagelok for more than 20 years.
That shows that there is still a career path in this country for the skilled blue-collar worker. You can see and hear some of these employees talk about their jobs in this new video.
One thing you'll notice in the video is how modern and clean the entire Swagelok operation is. Today's machinery is top-of-the-line, sophisticated, safe and computer-controlled. The company conducts intensive training to make sure its associates run the machines the Swagelok way.
Six values
Swagelok has identified six values that underpin the company's operation: customer focus, quality, integrity, respect, continuous improvement, and innovation. As you'll see in the video, respect means a lot to Swagelok employees. Other corporations have shipped jobs out of the country and caused their U.S. employees to feel insecure about their future. The people of Swagelok care about one another. We listen and learn from one another. Each voice is important. It's one reason that Swagelok has earned awards as a great place to work. In fact, for four years in a row, the Cleveland Plain Dealer has named it one of the top 100 workplaces in the region, based on a survey of employees that looks at important areas such as leadership opportunities, quality of work life, and pay and benefits.
“Our company is driven to perform and we can’t do it alone,” said Sally Turner, Vice President of Human Resources. "Our associates’ dedication to quality and continually improving our products and processes helps us deliver value beyond the expected to customers, which in turn drives our growth. “
Swagelok Northern California, your local supplier of Swagelok components, solutions, and services, embraces the same principles in our day-to-day work.
