Chemical Catalysts Turn Tiny 2D Sheets into 3D Objects

The microfluidic sheet can form 3D shapes and move autonomously in a reactant-filled fluid

Engineers at the University of Pittsburgh have developed a sheet of 2D material that changes shape in response to chemical catalysts. It can form 3D, flexible objects and move autonomously when immersed in a reactant-filled fluid. Future applications are in soft robotic devices.
