Scientists at the University of New South Wales have developed a new super desiccant made from graphene oxide, which is twice as absorbent as silica gel.
The team from the UNSW School of Materials Science and Engineering created the desiccant from layers of graphene oxide, and then studied the material's extraordinarily high adsorption and desorption rates, which they found were due to high capillary pressure in the laminates and tunnel-like wrinkles on their surfaces.
Not only is the material extremely efficient, but it can also discharge moisture at low temperatures, enabling it to be easily used over and over again, unlike conventional desiccants.
