Sharp Meets Flat In Tunable 2D Material

Scientists have created unique two-dimensional flakes of a transition metal dichalcogenide heterostructure, a crystal with more than one chemical component. The unique aspect is the sharp zigzag boundary between the material’s elements. This sharp divide gives it a smaller electronic band gap than other dichalcogenides, making it very precisely tunable.
